Top 3 Best Performing Pet Posts For Engagement

I’m often asked, “What should we post on our socials to get people more engaged?”

In fact, it’s a constant challenge. Although it’s essential that we post regular information and advice on pet care, we need to intersperse our schedule with a few questions and light-hearted posts, and allow our followers to tell us what they think.

Why Do We Want More Engagement On Our Posts?

More engagement = Further Reach = More Followers = Increased potential for revenue

  1. The more we can grow our page followers, the more people will see our other posts, such as promos and educational material.

  2. Clients (and potential clients) appreciate being asked for their input. It lets them know that we are listening to them.

  3. It builds a sense of community when followers respond and react to each other’s comments.

  4. Engaging posts are more relatable and thus, more shareable.

Top 3 Types of Engaging Posts

The list of questions you could ask your followers is limitless, however here are a few that have worked well for my clients.

1. Tell us about your pet

People LOVE to talk about their pets! Ask them:

  • What is your pet’s favourite toy?
  • Share a baby pic or adoption day photo of your pet! (Applicable for Facebook, but not Instagram.)
  • Do you have a special nickname for your pet?
  • Describe your pet with two emojis.
  • If you could ask your pet one thing (past or present), what would it be?
  • If your pet had a job, what do you think it would be?

2. We Want Your Advice

  • What advice would you give to a first-time cat parent?
  • What is the best dog beach to visit in your area?
  • Where is the best place to hold a birthday party for your dog?

3. Tell Us Your Opinion

By far, the most successful engaging posts are those which ask followers what they think and how they feel about certain issues:

  • Do you think that pets should be allowed to visit their families in hospital?

Here are some of the responses received by one of my clients for the same post:

Other questions you could include:

  • Who’s your all-time favourite tv/movie animal?
  • Would you include your pets in your wedding party?
  • Should pets be allowed to travel in plane cabins with their owners?
  • Should dogs be allowed to sleep on the bed with their people?
  • Should employers offer their staff pet bereavement leave?

This one really hit a nerve with many pet parents. Here’s a sample of responses for one of my clients:

Converting Engagement Into New Followers

  1. React or reply to every comment on your post.

  2. Use the Meta Business Suite feature to invite people who have engaged with your posts to follow your page. I do this regularly each week for my clients.
